Kundapur: The state government has made Byndoor MLA, Gopal Poojary, director and chairman of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation. The post is of cabinet minister’s rank.
Poojary has been elected four times from Byndoor constituency, thrice between 1998 and 2008, and again for the fourth time during the 2013 election. Gopal Poojary, who opted to run a hotel after securing degree, joined Congress party in 1997. He served as member of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee from 1998 to 2010 and president of Udupi district Congress committee since 2010.
Poojary was expected to be made minister after Vinay Kumar Sorake was removed as minister. However Pramod Madhwaraj was made the minister.
Poojary, who expressed elation at having been made chairman of KSRTC, has thanked chief minister, Siddaramaiah, Rajya Sabha member, Oscar Fernandes, state working president of the party, Dinesh Gundu Rao, transport minister, Ramlainge Gowda and senior leaders of the party. He said he plans to work strenuously towards running the corporation profitably besides honestly trying to improve services being offered to the general public.
